John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary takes a fresh approach to the combination of materials that he pioneered so successfully in El Niño. Commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, it will be presented in a concert version May/June 2012, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and will return the following season in a fully staged edition, directed by Peter Sellars. A tour of the fully staged production will be given in Los Angeles, London, Paris, Lucerne and New York in March, 2013.

The highlight of the evening was Mr. Bubeck's realization of "Father in Heaven" from Judas Maccabaeus. Here, this young singer dazzled with purity of tone, and the unique setting within a temple added a level of poignancy. The crowd felt this, as well, and Mr. Bubeck was deservedly accorded the one curtain call of the night.
